1588.
"My heart. My hope." Those were the words Henry said to her on their wedding day.Edeva repeats that moment in her head as she dies. It's a slow death, unable to do anything but lie at the base of the tree, bloody and broken, and wait to die. She wishes so badly to lift her hand to her belly, to comfort her unborn child in their final moments. And then... she was a live again. There was fever and agonizing pain and terrifyingly realistic nightmares. Edeva wondered if she was in Hell. She did die after all. When she finally woke from it all, though, she had the sickening feeling that yes, she was dead. And yes, this was Hell. Because sat next to her was her murderer, face and body burned, sinister smile leering down at her. All she could do was cry tearlessly."...Henry?"Crowley shook his head, and for a moment, Edeva believed he felt pain. "Dead, I'm afraid, dear.""And I?""I saved you from death," he told her, a smug smile on his charred face. "In time, you will become something as powerful as you are beautiful."Crowley told the truth. Over time, he taught her how to live as he did. As a vampire. What other choice did she have but stay with him? She was alone in this New World, uninhabited by Englishmen, forced to succumb to her killer in order to survive. And survive she did.
1600-1800s.
Edeva and Crowley made their way south, a journey that took months. It was to their surprise and fortune that the Spanish had a settlement, a rather large one at that, and the two were taken in.It was there that Edeva learned the ways of a doctor. Not because of Crowley, but because it helped people. If Edeva could save those from sickness, could she be redeemed? Her days were spent resting, shielding herself from the sun ; her nights spent learning and practicing medicine.Shortly after the turn of the century, Edeva managed to escape Crowley's grasp. She spent nearly 15 years with the man who killed her husband and unborn child - the man that killed her and brought her back to an eternal life of being a monster. The next hundred years were spent surviving. And just when Edeva was beginning to rethink eternal life, she came across a ship that took her home.England had changed so much since she left it in 1587. The cities were over-crowded, streets packed with people and horses alike, and everything felt so alive. It was the perfect place to start anew, and now that the sun was merely a nuisance and not a death trap, Edeva could live more freely. The forever young woman took up a habit of choosing her meals in the form of brutish, evil men - the ones that went too far when utilizing the services of prostitutes. If she imagined Crowley's face as she drained their blood, she would never tell a soul. Over time, Edeva amassed a small fortune from these conquests, enough to live comfortably and travel as she needed.Being a vampire, un-aging and dangerous, meant she couldn't settle in one place for too long. And so Edeva traveled often, exploring Europe's countries and other continents and their cultures. She became a governess for more than one family during her travels, always leaving the moment suspicion arose at her youthfulness.Edeva saw the rise and fall of nations, watched as the world grew around her. Steered clear of the ever growing vampire population as much as she could. Of course, it was inevitable. There were far more than Edeva could have imagined, and not all were like Crowley. In fact, many were helping society progress in ways she thought impossible of a monster. Yet, here she was, raising children that weren't her own, and somewhere deep within her she knew she was trying to fill a void.Perhaps she would be inspired by these do-gooder vampires. Perhaps there was hope in this eternity after all.
1900s.
After having influenced the works of several incredibly talented women authors, Edeva decided it was time to write her own stories. She had taken to writing poetry half a century ago after befriending a lovely woman by the name of Elizabeth Browning, and while her own work sat unpublished, hidden in a chest in her home, Edeva still loved the hobby. It wasn't until after World War I that she began publishing her work, under the pseudonym E. Sturges. It was something of a fascination of hers to have her work - stories of her life repurposed in a fictitious fashion - live on forever, alongside her. She gained a decent following, careful to keep her face unknown to the public. Part of the allure of her books was the author's unknown gender, and it was both fun and beneficial to her safety to keep it a secret. It wasn't long before war broke out again, and with it a ghost from Edeva's past. Her only husband - the man she married and left England with in search of a new life - was alive. Henry Sturges was alive and well, except his name wasn't Henry Sturges anymore, and he had made quite the name for himself. There was no mistaking him. Edeva never forgot what he looked like, or the way his eyes shown bright when he looked her way.Henry was alive, and all Edeva could do was watch from afar. Not because she lacked the means to go to America and pay him a visit, no. Edeva was terrified of facing her past. She couldn't bare to stand in front of the man she once gave everything to, only to have been ripped away from him. How did he survive? She should have gone looking for him - made sure that Crowley's words of his death were true. There was also the fact that the man she read newspaper articles about, listened to on the radio as he talked about the future of our world, was a complete stranger.Still, she had no right to come barging into his life, whatever new adventure he may be after.
Today.
Today, Edeva is still writing, though she uses a new pseudonym of Dev Pierce. While her parents were nothing to miss, the surname helped keep her identity under wraps. Especially now that someone from her past was very much alive and could easily find her books, ever growing in popularity with the technology of today. One thing that has changed, however, is her fear of returning to the New World. The Unites States, as it's called now, is much different place, as is the world for that matter.Superheroes run amuck, their governments useless in controlling them and the constant threat of villainy or alien attacks or rogue supernatural creatures coming out of the shadows. It was as good a time as any, she supposed, to finally explore the world she left behind centuries ago and see what it has in store for her.

HENRY STURGES.
my heart; my hope.

Over 500 years ago, Edeva Elizabeth Pierce met the man who changed her life forever. A blacksmith's apprentice, he was quick-witted, charming and worked well with his hands. They fell in love and set off to The New World. A life away from her awful parents, building a life and a family of their own. And they almost had it, too, until the colony's doctor slaughtered their colony, killing both Henry and Edeva, and their unborn child, too.Edeva thought that was the end of their story together. But then...
Howard Stark was a man with his own company, bringing about huge change in a world so desperately in need of it.And years later, a man who made a new family. One he was careful to tailor a specific image for. The man the world saw aging and handing off his company to his son was not Henry Sturges, she knew this.Still, he was a stranger, and who was Edeva to interrupt his life, his family, his career, all because they used to be married. Used to be each other's e v e r y t h i n g s.So, she stayed unknown.
Decades later, when the world is back in a roaring type of 20s and filled with superheroes and supernatural creatures (and who knew what else lay in secret), Edeva visits America. It's 2022.She's in New York City, when she catches a glimpse of him. What were the odds, that out of anywhere in the world, and out of millions of people in this city, that Edeva would find Henry again. He doesn't see her; must not sense her. She does not approach.3 weeks later, she begins sending him anonymous gifts and tells her to meet them where they died.
And thus, begins their journey getting to know each other again, in the place that held so much pain. She hopes heal that pain, both of Roanoke and what their deaths meant to one another. Whatever the outcome, Edeva knows everything will be okay. She has Henry back, at least in this moment.
